Jannis

Jannis is a German and Greek form of John, ultimately derived from the Hebrew name Yohanan, meaning God is gracious. It represents the Greek vernacular development of the name that spread widely through Europe following the influence of the New Testament figures John the Baptist and John the Apostle. Closely related forms include Yannis in Modern Greek, Jan in various Germanic and Slavic languages, and Johannes, the classical Latin rendering from which many European variants descend.
