Jannis

Jannis is a Greek form of the Hebrew name Yohanan, meaning God is gracious, and is the Greek-world equivalent of the widely spread name John. It developed as a vernacular diminutive or variant within modern Greek naming tradition and remains in common use in Greece and among Greek diaspora communities. Related forms include the older Greek Ioannis, the Hebrew Yohanan, and the many European cognates such as Johannes, Giovanni, Juan, and Jean.
