Jeannie

Jeannie is an English and Scottish diminutive of Jean, itself the feminine form of John, which derives from the Hebrew Yohanan meaning God is gracious. The name gained particular affection in Scotland, where Jean and its diminutives were long favored, and Robert Burns immortalized it in his poem I Love a Lassie and other verses celebrating the name. Jeannie enjoyed widespread popularity in the English-speaking world through the twentieth century, partly boosted by the American television series I Dream of Jeannie.
