Josephine

Josephine is the English, German, and Dutch feminine form of Joseph, which derives from the Hebrew name Yosef, meaning "he will add" or "God will increase," from the root yasaf. The name gained widespread popularity across Europe largely through the influence of Joséphine de Beauharnais, the first wife of Napoleon Bonaparte and Empress of France in the early nineteenth century. Related forms include the French Joséphine, as well as shorter variants and diminutives such as Josefine, Josie, and Jo.
