Judit

Judit is the Hungarian, Spanish, Scandinavian, and occasionally German form of Judith, a Latinized rendering of the Hebrew name Yehudit, meaning woman of Judea or feminine form of Yehudah, itself meaning praised. The name is borne in the Hebrew Bible by Judith, the widow celebrated for beheading the Assyrian general Holofernes and saving her people, a story recounted in the deuterocanonical Book of Judith.
