Kaarina

Kaarina is the Finnish form of Katherine, ultimately derived from the Greek name Aikaterine, whose precise root remains debated but is often associated with the Greek word katharos, meaning pure. The name entered Finnish usage as an adaptation of the Latin Catharina, which spread widely through medieval Europe largely due to the veneration of Saint Catherine of Alexandria. Katariina and Karin are among the closely related forms found in Finnish and other Nordic languages.
