Katriona

Katriona is an Irish and Scottish Gaelic form of Katherine, ultimately derived from the Greek name Aikaterine, whose precise root remains debated but is often associated with the Greek word katharos, meaning pure. The name has been traditional in Ireland and the Scottish Highlands for centuries, carried partly through the veneration of Saint Catherine of Alexandria. It is closely related to the more common anglicised spelling Catriona, as well as to Katrina, Katharine, and the Irish form Caitríona.
