Katriona

Katriona is a Scottish Gaelic form of Katherine, which traces back through Latin Katharina and Greek Aikaterinē to roots that are debated but often connected to the Greek katharos, meaning pure. The name entered the Gaelic-speaking world through the influence of the medieval cult of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, whose veneration spread widely across Europe. Katriona remains closely associated with Scottish and Irish literary and folk tradition, and it is sometimes spelled Catriona, the form famously used by Robert Louis Stevenson as the title of his 1893 sequel to Kidnapped.
