feminine · German (Rare) origin
Kora is a German feminine name, most commonly understood as a variant of Kore, itself derived from the ancient Greek word korē, meaning girl or maiden. In Greek mythology, Kore was an epithet of Persephone, the goddess of spring and the underworld, lending the name rich classical associations. The Latinate form Cora, popularized in the English-speaking world partly through James Fenimore Cooper's novel The Last of the Mohicans, is a close cognate, as are Korinna and Corinne.
