Korinna

Korinna is the ancient Greek form of the name, derived from the Greek word kore, meaning maiden or girl. The most celebrated bearer was the lyric poet Korinna of Tanagra, who lived around the fifth or fourth century BCE and was said to have been a rival or teacher of Pindar. The Latinized form Corinna was later adopted by Roman poets, including Ovid, who used it as the pseudonym for his beloved in the Amores, cementing the name's literary prestige. Corina and Korina are among the modern variants found across European traditions.
