Kyra

Kyra is most commonly regarded as an anglicized form or feminine variant of Cyrus, a name of Persian origin derived from the Old Persian Kurush, possibly meaning throne or far-sighted. Some sources also connect it to the Greek word kyrios, meaning lord or master, or treat it as a feminine elaboration of that root. The name gained wider use in the English-speaking world during the twentieth century, partly through the influence of the stage name of actress Kyra Sedgwick.
