Kira

Kira has multiple distinct origins depending on cultural tradition. In Russian, Ukrainian, and Belarusian use, it functions as a feminine form of Kir, which derives from the Greek Kyros, itself possibly connected to the Greek kyrios meaning lord or master, or alternatively tracing back to an Old Persian root related to the sun or to the name of the ancient Persian king Cyrus the Great. In English-speaking countries, Kira arose largely as a variant of Keira or Kyra, names linked to the Irish Ciara, meaning dark. Related forms include Kyra, Keira, and Ciara.
