Marfa

Marfa is the Russian form of Martha, itself derived from the Aramaic name Marta, meaning lady or mistress. The name was borne by the biblical Martha of Bethany, sister of Lazarus and Mary, and it spread through Christian tradition across many languages. Marfa enjoyed use in imperial Russia and appears in Russian literature, most notably as a character in Fyodor Dostoevsky's The Brothers Karamazov.
