Nina

Nina has multiple independent origins. In European languages it arose chiefly as a short form of names ending in -nina, such as Antonina, Giannina, or Katharina, and in Russian it also functions as a borrowing of the Georgian name Nino, borne by the 4th-century saint who brought Christianity to Georgia. Separately, in the Quechua and Aymara languages of the Andes, nina is a native word meaning fire, giving the name a wholly distinct etymology in South American tradition.
