Oskari is the Finnish form of Oscar, ultimately derived from Old English or Old Norse elements meaning either "god spear" or "deer friend," with the Old Norse form Ásgeirr and the Old Irish Osgar offering competing ancestral forms. The name was popularized across Scandinavia largely through the influence of James Macpherson's 18th-century Ossian poems, which spread a romanticized version of the name throughout Europe. Oskari has remained a traditional Finnish masculine name and sits alongside its Scandinavian relatives Oscar and Oskar.
