Roberta is the feminine form of Robert, a name of Old Germanic origin composed of the elements hrod, meaning fame or glory, and beraht, meaning bright or shining, giving the overall sense of bright fame. The name was carried into widespread use across Europe following the Norman Conquest, and its feminine adaptation became particularly popular in English-speaking countries during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
