Robrecht

Robrecht is a Dutch form of the Germanic name composed of the elements hrod, meaning fame or glory, and beraht, meaning bright or shining, giving the overall sense of one who is brilliantly renowned. The name belongs to the same family as Robert, Roberto, Rupert, and Robertus, all descending from the Old High German Hrodebert. It was borne by several medieval Flemish nobles, including counts of Flanders, lending it a distinctly historical character in the Low Countries. Today Robrecht survives as a rare but genuine Dutch given name alongside the more common Robert.
