Robrecht

Robrecht is a Dutch form of the Germanic name composed of the elements hrod, meaning fame or glory, and beraht, meaning bright or shining, giving an overall sense of bright fame. The name belongs to the same widespread Germanic family that produced Robert, the dominant English and French form, as well as Rupert, Ruprecht, and the older Dutch variant Robbert. It was borne by several medieval Flemish counts, including Robrecht de Fries, Count of Flanders in the eleventh century. Today the form is rare in the Netherlands and Belgium, where Robert and Robbert have largely supplanted it.
