Rosetta

Rosetta is an Italian diminutive of Rosa, itself derived from the Latin rosa, meaning rose, the flowering plant long associated with beauty and love. The name gained widespread international recognition through the Rosetta Stone, a decree inscribed in 196 BC and discovered in the Egyptian town of Rashid (known to Europeans as Rosetta) in 1799, whose decipherment unlocked the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic writing system. The name shares its root with Rosa, Rose, Rosalie, Rosina, and Rosette.
