Tristan

Tristan is a name of Celtic origin, most likely derived from the Pictish or Brythonic name Drustan, a diminutive of a root related to the Celtic element drest or drust, possibly meaning tumult or noise. The name became widely known through the medieval Arthurian legend of Tristan and Iseult, a tragic romance in which Tristan is a Cornish knight who falls hopelessly in love with the Irish princess Iseult after the two accidentally drink a love potion. The story was enormously popular throughout medieval Europe and spread the name across France, England, and Spain. Related forms include Tristán in Spanish and the older Celtic form Drustan.
