Tudur

Tudur is a Welsh form of the old Celtic name Theodoric, derived from the Germanic elements theud, meaning people or nation, and ric, meaning power or ruler, though it passed into Welsh through early medieval contact and phonological adaptation. It was borne by several Welsh chieftains and princes, most notably Tudur ap Goronwy, ancestor of the Tudor dynasty that came to rule England. The anglicized form Tudor became strongly associated with that royal house, lending the name lasting historical prominence. Related forms include the English Tudor and the broader Germanic Theodoric and its many European cognates.
