Tudor

Tudor is the Welsh and Romanian form of the Latin Theodorus, itself derived from the Greek Theodoros, composed of the elements theos meaning god and doron meaning gift. In Wales the name is famously associated with the Tudor dynasty, the royal house that ruled England from 1485 to 1603 and traces its roots to the Welsh nobleman Tudur ap Goronwy. In Romania, Tudor gained prominence partly through Tudor Vladimirescu, the early nineteenth-century revolutionary leader. Closely related forms include Theodore, Theodor, and Teodor.
