Zaccharias

Zaccharias is the Biblical Latin form of the Hebrew name Zechariah, composed of the elements zakar, meaning to remember, and Yah, a shortened form of the divine name YHWH, giving the overall sense of God has remembered. The name belongs to numerous figures in the Hebrew Bible, most prominently the prophet Zechariah, as well as the father of John the Baptist in the New Testament. Its Greek equivalent Zacharias and the Hebrew Zechariah produced a wide range of European forms, including the common English Zachary and the German Zacharias.
