Zachariah

Zachariah is an English form of the Hebrew name Zechariah, composed of the elements zakar, meaning to remember, and yah, a shortened form of the divine name Yahweh, giving the overall sense of God has remembered. The name belongs to numerous figures in the Hebrew Bible, most prominently the prophet Zechariah and a king of Israel, and it also appears in the New Testament as the father of John the Baptist. Its use in the English-speaking world was reinforced by the Protestant embrace of biblical names following the Reformation.
