Zechariah

Zechariah is a Hebrew name derived from the elements zakar, meaning to remember, and yah, a shortened form of the divine name Yahweh, giving the overall sense of God has remembered. It was borne by numerous figures in the Hebrew Bible, most notably the prophet Zechariah, whose visions are recorded in the Old Testament book bearing his name, as well as by the father of John the Baptist in the New Testament. The name has been used in English-speaking communities since the Protestant Reformation, when Biblical names came into widespread fashion. Zacharias is the Greek and Latin form, while Zachary represents the most common shortened variant in modern English use.
