Zanna is an English short form of Susanna, which ultimately derives from the Hebrew name Shoshannah, meaning lily or rose. The name has been used as an independent given name in English-speaking countries, particularly as a modern diminutive form. Latvian Žanna, by contrast, is a borrowing of the French Jeanne, itself derived from the Old French form of Johanna, meaning God is gracious.
