Allissa

Allissa is an English variant spelling of Alissa, itself a form of Alyssa, which derives from the name of the alyssum flower. The flower's name comes from the Greek word alysson, a plant once believed to cure rabies, from the prefix a- (without) and lyssa (madness, rabies). The name gained broad popularity in English-speaking countries during the twentieth century, partly through association with the older Germanic name Alice.
