Anneke

Anneke is a Dutch and Low German diminutive of Anna, which derives from the Hebrew name Channah, meaning grace or favor. It has been in common use in the Netherlands and northern Germany since the medieval period, carried by countless ordinary women as well as appearing in Dutch literature and folk tradition. The name shares its root with Anne, Hannah, Anke, and Annelies, all of which spread widely across Europe through the influence of the biblical figure Anna and the veneration of Saint Anne, mother of the Virgin Mary.
