Deloris

Deloris is an English variant of Dolores, which derives from the Spanish title María de los Dolores, meaning Mary of the Sorrows, itself rooted in the Latin word dolor, meaning pain or grief. The name arose from a Roman Catholic devotion to the Virgin Mary and her suffering at the crucifixion. Deloris gained use primarily in the United States during the twentieth century as an anglicized respelling of the original Spanish form. Dolores, Delores, and Lola are closely related forms of the same name.
