Dorthe

Dorthe is a Danish contracted form of Dorothea, which derives from the Greek name Dorothea, composed of the elements doron, meaning gift, and theos, meaning god, thus carrying the sense of gift of God. The name became widely used in Scandinavia through the veneration of Saint Dorothy, a early Christian martyr. The Low German equivalent Dörthe shares the same origin and development.
