Edik

Edik is an Armenian diminutive form of Eduard, itself derived from the Old English name Eadweard, composed of the elements ead, meaning wealth or fortune, and weard, meaning guard or protector. It is widely used as an affectionate everyday form in Armenia as well as among Russian and other Eastern European speakers who also shorten Eduard to Edik. The name ultimately traces back to the same Germanic root that produced Edward and its many European cognates. Eduard, Ed, and Edi are among the related forms found across different languages.
