Eduard

Eduard is the German, Dutch, Czech, Slovak, Croatian, Catalan, Romanian, and various Slavic and Caucasian form of Edward, derived from the Old English elements ead, meaning wealth or fortune, and weard, meaning guard or protector. The name entered continental European languages largely through the historical prestige of English and Anglo-Saxon royal figures who bore the name, as well as through later cultural exchange. The Hungarian form Eduárd represents the same borrowing with an accent reflecting local phonological conventions. Closely related forms include Edward, Édouard, Eduardo, Edvard, and Eduard.
