Federico

Federico is the Spanish and Italian form of Frederick, derived from the Germanic elements frid, meaning peace, and ric, meaning power or ruler, giving the overall sense of peaceful ruler. The name was borne by several Holy Roman Emperors, most notably Frederick II, known in Italian as Federico II, who ruled in the thirteenth century and was celebrated as a patron of science and the arts. The Spanish poet and playwright Federico García Lorca brought the name lasting literary distinction in the twentieth century.
