Federigo

Federigo is an archaic Italian form of Frederick, ultimately derived from the Germanic elements frid, meaning peace, and ric, meaning power or ruler, giving the combined sense of peaceful ruler. It was common in medieval and Renaissance Italy, borne most notably by Federigo da Montefeltro, the celebrated fifteenth-century Duke of Urbino, as well as appearing as a character name in Boccaccio's Decameron. The form gave way over time to the more modern Italian variant Federico, which remains the standard form of the name today.
