Jeremias

Jeremias is the Latin and Greek form of the Hebrew name Yirmeyahu, meaning "Yahweh will exalt" or "Yahweh will loosen," composed of the elements yaram or yaroh and Yah, a shortened form of the divine name. It appears in the Septuagint and Vulgate as the name of the major Hebrew prophet whose writings form the Book of Jeremiah in the Bible. The name is used in German, Portuguese, Finnish, and Spanish-speaking traditions as a learned or formal equivalent of the vernacular forms.
