Josefina

Josefina is the Spanish, Portuguese, and Swedish feminine form of Josef, itself the Latin and Germanic rendering of the Hebrew name Yosef, meaning he will add or God will increase, from the root yasaf. The name entered wide use across Catholic Europe through devotion to Saint Joseph, the husband of the Virgin Mary in Christian tradition. Josefina gained particular prominence in the Spanish-speaking world and in Sweden partly through the influence of Joséphine de Beauharnais, the first wife of Napoleon Bonaparte. Related forms include Josephine, Giuseppina, and Josefa, while the Czech variant is spelled Josefína.
