Margreet

Margreet is a Dutch and Limburgish form of Margaret, ultimately derived from the ancient Greek margaritēs, meaning pearl. The name passed into Latin as Margarita and spread widely across medieval Europe, carried in part by the fame of Saint Margaret of Antioch, a popular martyr venerated throughout the Christian world. Margreet is closely related to other Dutch and Germanic forms such as Margriet, Margaretha, and Margot, as well as the English Margaret and Scottish Mairead.
