Greet

Greet is a Dutch short form of Margareet, the Dutch variant of Margaret, which traces back through Latin and Greek to the word for pearl. It has long been a familiar everyday form in the Low Countries, functioning much as Greta does in German-speaking regions. Related forms include Greetje, Greta, Gretel, and Margot.
