Owain

Owain is a Welsh name derived from the Latin Eugenius, itself from the Greek Eugénios, meaning well-born or of noble birth. It has been borne by several notable figures in Welsh history and legend, most prominently Owain ap Urien, a hero of early Welsh poetry who later became a Knight of the Round Table in Arthurian tradition, and Owain Glyndŵr, the Welsh leader who led a major uprising against English rule in the early fifteenth century. The name is closely related to the Breton Ewein and the broader family of Latinate forms including Owen, Ewan, and Eoghan across the Celtic languages.
