Peer

Peer is a North Germanic given name, the Danish and Norwegian form of Peter, itself derived from the Greek Petros, meaning stone or rock. The Greek name was a translation of the Aramaic Kephas, the byname given by Jesus to the apostle Simon, making Peter one of the most widely adopted Christian names in Europe. Peer spread through Scandinavia with Christianity and remains in use in Denmark and Norway today. Related forms include the Swedish Pär, the German and English Peter, and the French Pierre.
