Susan is an English given name derived through Latin and Greek from the Hebrew name Shoshannah, meaning lily or rose. The name was borne by a biblical figure in the Book of Daniel, the virtuous Susanna who was falsely accused and later vindicated, which helped spread the name throughout the Christian world.
