Beth

Beth is an English short form of Elizabeth, which derives from the Hebrew name Elisheba, composed of the elements el, meaning God, and sheva, meaning oath or perhaps seven. It has been used as an independent given name since at least the nineteenth century, gaining particular cultural resonance through the character Beth March in Louisa May Alcott's novel Little Women, published in 1868.
