Conchobar

Conchobar is an Old Irish masculine name generally interpreted as meaning lover of hounds or hound-lover, derived from the elements con, the genitive form of cú meaning hound or wolf, and cobhar meaning desiring or loving. The name is most famously borne by Conchobar mac Nessa, the legendary king of Ulster in Irish mythology, who appears throughout the Ulster Cycle as the ruler of the Red Branch warriors and uncle of the hero Cú Chulainn. The name remained in use in medieval Ireland and was frequently anglicized as Cornelius or Connor, the latter being its most common modern descendant. Conor and Connor are the principal contemporary forms found in Ireland and among the Irish diaspora.
