Doroteja

Doroteja is the South Slavic form of Dorothy, derived from the Greek name Dorothea, composed of the elements doron, meaning gift, and theos, meaning god, giving the overall sense of gift of God. The name spread through medieval Europe largely through the veneration of Saint Dorothy, a fourth-century Christian martyr. Doroteja is used primarily in Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, and Macedonia, while the closely related Lithuanian form Dorotėja serves the same name in the Baltic tradition.
