Dorotea is the Italian, Spanish, Croatian, and Swedish form of Dorothy, derived from the Greek name Dorothea, composed of the elements doron, meaning gift, and theos, meaning god, giving the overall sense of gift of God. The name is the feminine equivalent of the masculine Theodoros, simply reversing the order of the same two roots.
