Dorotea

Dorotea is the Italian, Spanish, Croatian, and Scandinavian form of Dorothy, derived from the Greek name Dorothea, composed of the elements doron, meaning gift, and theos, meaning god, giving the overall sense of gift of God. The name is essentially the reverse of Theodora, which combines the same roots in the opposite order. Saint Dorothy was a fourth-century Christian martyr venerated in the Western church, whose story helped spread the name throughout Europe. Dorothea, Dorothy, and Theodora are the most closely related forms found across various European languages.
