Greti

Greti is an Upper German diminutive form of Margarete, itself derived from the Latin Margarita and ultimately from the Greek margaritēs, meaning pearl. It belongs to the same family of pet forms as Greta, Gretel, and Margarethe, all widely used in German-speaking regions of Central Europe. The name gained broad folk familiarity through Gretel, its close variant, which became a household figure in Germanic oral tradition.
