Hattie

Hattie is an English diminutive of Harriet, which is itself an English feminine form of Harry, a medieval vernacular form of Henry. Henry derives from the Germanic name Heimirich, composed of the elements heim, meaning home, and ric, meaning power or ruler. Hattie gained widespread use as an independent given name in the 19th century, particularly in the United States, and is associated with American actress Hattie McDaniel, the first Black performer to win an Academy Award. Harriet and Harry are the closest cognates.
