Harriette

Harriette is an English feminine diminutive form of Harry, which itself derives from the medieval English pronunciation of Henry. Henry traces back to the Old High German name Heimirich, composed of the elements heim, meaning home, and rih, meaning power or ruler, giving the overall sense of ruler of the home. The name gained popularity in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries partly through the influence of Harriet, its more common spelling variant, and was borne by the British writer Harriette Wilson. Henrietta and Harriet are closely related forms sharing the same Germanic roots.
