Henrietta

Henrietta is the Latinate feminine form of Henry, which derives from the Old High German name Heimirich, composed of the elements heim, meaning home, and rīhhi, meaning power or ruler, giving the overall sense of ruler of the home. The name was popularized in England following the arrival of Henrietta Maria of France, queen consort of Charles I, in the seventeenth century. It enjoyed broad use across Northern Europe and appears in Swedish, Finnish, and Hungarian traditions as well. Shortened forms such as Harriet, Hettie, and Etta developed as common variants and independent names in their own right.
