Isbel

Isbel is a medieval English form of Isabel, itself a Spanish and Portuguese adaptation of Elisabeth, derived from the Hebrew name Elisheba, meaning my God is an oath or my God is abundance. The name traveled from Hebrew through Greek and Latin before spreading across medieval Europe in numerous regional forms. Isbel represents one of the older Scottish and northern English contracted variants, sitting alongside forms such as Isobel, Ishbel, and Isabel.
