Lucia

Lucia derives from the Latin masculine praenomen Lucius, itself rooted in the Latin word lux, meaning light. It was borne by Saint Lucia of Syracuse, a Christian martyr of the early fourth century whose feast day on December 13 became associated in Scandinavian tradition with a festival of light during the winter darkness. The name spread widely across Europe through veneration of this saint and remains common in Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, German, and Scandinavian cultures. Closely related forms include Lucy, the anglicized variant, as well as Lucie, Luz, and the masculine Lucius and Luca.
