Lucinda

Lucinda is an elaborated form of Lucia, ultimately derived from the Latin word lux, meaning light. The name was coined by the Spanish playwright Miguel de Cervantes in his novel Don Quixote (1605), where Lucinda appears as a romantic heroine, and it subsequently spread across European literature and into common use. It enjoyed particular popularity in English-speaking and Portuguese-speaking countries from the seventeenth century onward. Related forms include Lucia, Lucy, Lucille, and the variant Lucinde used in French contexts.
