Cindy

Cindy is an English pet form of Cynthia, which derives from the Greek Kynthia, meaning "woman from Kynthos," referring to Mount Kynthos on the island of Delos, the mythological birthplace of the goddess Artemis. The name gained widespread independent use in the mid-twentieth century, particularly in the United States, where it became a popular given name in its own right rather than merely a nickname. It shares roots with Cynthia and the rarer Synthia, and the variant Sindy is also found.
